Veitur Innovation Festival

Loading...

Veitur held its first innovation festival at the Elliðaár Power Station from June 3-5, 2025. There, a group of creative people tackled challenges in the energy and utility sectors. The topics concern us all, society as a whole, and future generations.

Major challenges solved in a short time

The work was based on the design sprint methodology, which allows large challenges to be solved in a short amount of time by working together, using creativity, logical thinking, and agility. At the innovation festival, five challenges were addressed, and about 20 people participated in each sprint.

Challenges arise

  • Fast-tracking projects: How can we accelerate the implementation of utility systems – without compromising on safety and quality?
  • Fat-Free Sewage: How can we prevent fat from ending up in the sewage system – and turn waste into a resource?
  • Energy Awareness: How can we increase people's understanding of energy and their energy consumption and encourage them to use it wisely?
  • Connecting to the future: How do we coordinate utility infrastructure and development plans
  • The sewer system of the future // Flushing to the future: If we could start from scratch – how would we design the sewer system of the future?

The Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival is the model

The model for the innovation festival can be traced to the Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival in Newcastle, which is one of the largest utility-related innovation festivals in the world. The innovation team at Northumbrian Water provided advice during the preparation of the festival.
