Arctic Circle visitors at Hellisheiði Power Plant
In connection with the recent Arctic Circle Assembly held in Harpa, Orkuveitan invited guests from the Assembly's Business Forum to visit the Geothermal Exhibition at the Hellisheiði Power Station.
At the Hellisheiði Power Plant, the guests were welcomed by Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, Head of Innovation at ON Power, and the science communicators from the Geothermal Exhibition. They led the group through the power plant's Geothermal Exhibition before presentations were given on the operations of Orka náttúrunnar (ON Power) and Carbfix. The guests then gained further insight into Carbfix's operations when they visited a wellhead enclosure where CO2 is injected into the rock for permanent storage.
Interest in the operations of Orkuveitan and its subsidiaries in connection with Iceland's sustainable use of geothermal energy is significant and growing internationally. An increasing number of countries, companies, and institutions are looking to Iceland when it comes to learning from the experience and solutions built on decades of knowledge and the successful operation of geothermal power plants. This increased interest creates both opportunities and new dimensions in international cooperation and project development. It was our honor to receive the guests and introduce them to how geothermal energy and its responsible utilization contribute to sustainability, energy security, and create value for society and future generations.
